Baduhenna, a revered Germanic goddess of the Frisians, lent her name to a sacred wood where the tribe sought divine favor. It was in this hallowed wood that the Frisii, in 28 AD, dealt a devastating blow to a Roman contingent of 900 soldiers. This historic event was recounted by the Roman historian Tacitus.
